HAA – 14th Conference – FOURTH NOTICE
The 14th Conference of the Herpetological Association of Africa will take place at the Cape St Francis Resort (CSFR) during the period 9 – 13 September 2019.
The Cape St Francis Resort situated in the coastal town of Cape St Francis, Eastern Cape, South Africa, provides not only a spectacular venue for a conference, but also provides attendees with an excellent opportunity to engage with a remarkable local herpetofauna.
Plenary speakers: Prof Graham Alexander, Prof Hannes Van Wyk, Mr Luke Verburgt (Travelogue speaker). Watch this space for announcements of more plenary speakers!
- Early bird registration: opens 1 April 2019; closes 25 June 2019.
- Late registration: opens 25 June 2019; closes 25 July 2019.
- Abstract submission: opens 1 April 2019; closes 30 May 2019.
Registration: Details on how to register will be available on the HAA website in the coming weeks and will be advertised via our Facebook page!
Registration fees: The organisers have endeavoured to keep costs for the conference reasonable. Registration fee includes all conference activities, lunch on each full day of the conference, 2 x teas each day, the banquet dinner, and evening snacks. Accommodation and conference t-shirt costs are not included in the quoted registration fees. Register before 25 June 2019 to take advantage of reduced early bird pricing. All prices are quoted in South African Rands.

Student members, there is a fantastic opportunity to have your conference fees and accommodation costs covered! Click here for more information or look up the HAA Conference Student Grant 2019 Announcement on the HAA website. Note that the closing date for financial support for students closes on 30 June 2019. Only 3 student conference grants will be awarded.
Workshops: The organising committee is seeking proposals for workshops that can be held in conjunction with the conference. Workshops can be one full day, or one half day. Contact Bryan Maritz (firstname.lastname@example.org) should you have an idea for a workshop that you would like to organise and host.
Accommodation: The following accommodation is available for conference participants at the Cape St Francis Resort:
- 4 Bedroom Luxury Villas from R 4750 per night (sleeps 8 guests sharing)
- 4 Bedroom Standard Villas from R 2970 per night (sleeps 8 guests sharing)
- 4 Bedroom Cottages from R 1980 per night (sleeps 8 guests sharing)
- 3 Bedroom Cottages from R 1650 per night (sleeps 6 guests sharing)
- 2 Bedroom Apartments from R 1320 per night (sleeps 4 guests sharing)
- Double Room Standard from R 875 per night (sleeps 2 guests sharing)
- One bedroom backpacker room R500 per night (sleeps 2 guests sharing)
Please note that “guests sharing” denotes that the house will be full people sharing double beds. All rates are self-catering therefore no meals are included in the quoted price. Breakfast can be added to any accommodation option at a cost of R140pp.
There is a block booking in place for conference participants (which does not appear on the Cape St Francis website). Please identify yourself as an HAA conference attendee when making inquiries. Inquiries should be mailed to email@example.com and firstname.lastname@example.org. NB: Do not book through the CSFR website, but rather contact the venue directly to make a booking!
