ZenScientist.com has established the ZenScientist.com Grant Fund which offers grants to smaller partner societies. The first grant, for 2014, has been earmarked for the Herpetological Association of Africa.
- The applicant must be a fully paid-up member of the Herpetological Association of Africa.
- The applicant must be currently registered in the 2014 academic year.
- The research project must represent original research on African herpetofauna. Africa is taken to include the continent of Africa, Madagascar, the Canary Islands, Cape Verde Islands, Gulf of Guinea islands, Mascarenes and Seychelles.
- The grant money may be used to purchase equipment or supplies, to fund travel to field sites (airfare, petrol, etc.) or other direct costs incurred by the proposed research. Funds may not be used to cover meeting or conference attendance or associated travel nor may they be used as salary.
- The application must include a detailed budget for the research costs to be covered by the award. The awardee will be asked to provide receipts within 12 months of the award date to verify their expenditures.
- The application must include a curriculum vitae and a maximum two page (single-spaced) statement of the research project including the following:
- A statement of the degree programme and institution as well as the academic mentor/advisor’s name and contact details.
- The title of the project.
- A summary of the overall project objectives/goals/hypotheses.
